Press Release (BVI)

ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, August 3rd, 2012  –  Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE, is recognising the contributions of Mrs. Doris Scatliffe, Managing Director of the National Bank of the Virgin Islands who began her retirement yesterday.

Premier Smith told the Department of Information and Public Relations that he commends and congratulates Mrs. Scatliffe who retired after over three decades of dedicated service to the banking industry.

Honourable Smith said during her tenure, Mrs. Scatliffe assisted in raising the profile of the bank with an aggressive advertising campaign to promote the bank’s range of services.

“The bank also became more responsive to its customers’ needs by extending its hours of operation to 3:00 p.m.,” according to Premier Smith.

He said, over the years the bank has built a solid reputation among BVIslanders as an institution, working in partnership with Government, to facilitate funding for scholarships for our youth, first time home owners and the development of micro industries.

“Mrs. Scatliffe would have played a pivotal role in all of these areas and as a result many of the dreams and realities of persons in our community have been realised,” he explained.

The Premier added, “Over the years Mrs. Scatliffe has provided a guiding hand and support to the Board during challenging and changing times as the institution restructures to meet international banking obligations.”

Honourable Smith expressed his gratitude, stating, “On behalf of the Government and people of the Virgin Islands, I thank Mrs. Scatliffe for her over 30 years of service. We join with you in celebrating your career and accomplishments and for your contributions to the development of our Territory.”

Mrs. Scatliffe served as Managing Director since October 2009.

The National Bank of the Virgin Islands is an associated agency of Government, under the Ministry of Finance, and promotes agricultural, industrial and economic development in the Territory by facilitating the ownership and management of investments by BVIslanders, as well as providing a range of banking services.
