BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – REIGNING National Carnival Queen Kalia Huggins won the judges’ nod in placing First Runner-up at the Miss Jaycees Pageant held last evening (Aug. 3) in Antigua.

The winner of the pageant was Miss Dominica Nadira Lindo who won the Miss Photogenic and Best Evening Wear awards while the Second Runner-up position went to Miss St. Lucia Roxanne Didier Nicholas who captured the Best Swimwear and Best Talent segments.

Miss Anguilla won the Miss Congeniality award.

Hours after the show, Huggins told SKNVibes she was proud of her participation.
“I must say it was indeed a true competition. Every contestant came out and did their best, but that's what makes me feel proud about my performance because I was able to compete against the best and, at the same time, capture the First Runner-up position.

“Of course, pageant is hard work but what's winning without hard work. So, I truly say I am proud of my participation,” she said.

The preliminaries were held on August 1, when 10 of the 15 contestants had made the finals. They were Miss Jamaica, Miss Dominica, Miss St. Kitts-Nevis, Miss St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Miss St. Croix, Miss Trinidad and Tobago, Miss British Virgin Islands, Miss Anguilla, Miss Antigua & Barbuda and Miss St. Lucia.

The format of the pageant was done whereby the top five contestants were announced following the Swimwear, Performing Talent and Evening Wear segments.

The top five were Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kitts, Dominica, St. Lucia and Antigua and Barbuda.

There scores from the previous category were erased and they then had a clean slate to battle for the crown in the Interview segment.

After that segment, Miss St. Kitts-Nevis, Miss Dominica and Miss St. Lucia were announced as the top three finalists.

The reigning Miss Jaycees Caribbean, Iantavian Queeley of St. Kitts and Nevis, took her final walk onstage.

Despite the inclement weather in Antigua and other neighbouring islands last evening, the show was still able to be hosted with a large crowd in attendance.

This is Miss Dominica’s second regional. Several month ago, she was crowned Miss Caribbean World.
