BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ANTOINE ADAMS has missed out on his aunt’s wedding but with good reasons; for while she was making her vows at the Altar, he was busy clocking 10.22 seconds to be ranked fourth in his heat and is looking forward to tomorrow’s (Aug. 5) 100m semi-finals at the London Olympic Games.
“Yea my aunt's wedding was happening the same time as my heats…I'm so happy for her. I wished I could be there but unfortunately I couldn't. I know she is very proud of me though,” he said.
Adams is thankful for being able to reach this far.
“First off, I have to thank God. It’s really a blessing for me to make it to the 100m semi-finals on my Olympic debut. I was a little disappointed with the race though…I didn't do some stuff that I needed to do and I don't think it was nerves.
“I was totally relaxed. Surprisingly, that round one race was my first race in over a month. I also had to deal with some little injuries here and there during that time. Like I said, it’s a blessing but now it’s really time to put everything together for the semi-finals. I'm in a really good heat and I'm looking forward to executing and doing well.”
Adams was reluctant to comment on Kim Collins being banned from the 100m by the SKN Olympic Committee, stating only that “It was a tough situation”.
News coming out from London indicated that Collins, world champion St. Kitts Nevis runner, has been removed from the 100m participation in the Olympics by St. Kitts-Nevis Olympic officials.
The officials reportedly told the press that they were unaware of Collins’ whereabouts for three days, but the former world champ stated on Facebook and Twitter that he went to visit his wife in a hotel.
Just last Saturday (July 28) St Kitts and Nevis sprinter Tameka Williams was sent home by the SKNOC for a potential drug violation.
Collins had been due to run in heat seven of round one of the men's 100m, which was won by Great Britain's Dwain Chambers.
Jason Rogers, who is also a part of the relay team with Adams, was unable to make the semi-finals after placing fifth in his 100m heat which was won by Usain Bolt.
