(Basseterre; St. Kitts) Kittitian world class sprinter Kim Collins is the new spokesperson for Cable & Wireless as he signed a two-year contract with the company.
Pat Walters, Chief Executive Officer of the corporate company, made the announcement on Wednesday March 16, at a Press Conference at the Ocean Terrace Inn, at 8:30 a.m. in the presence of local media and other Cable & Wireless officials.
A scrumptious breakfast was served before the announcement as some were speculating the reason for the press conference as the purpose of it was unknown. Some even thought the meeting was about the new revelations the company is experiencing with Digicel.
However, the presence of Collins who was dressed in business attire and was at the time anticipating the birth of his third child, gave the assumptions a little sunlight.
Of course we need no reminder of nearly three years ago, Kittitians and Nevisians all over the world celebrated the dramatic victory of Kim as world champion of the 100 meters, Walters said. This is one of the proudest moments in our history and as a destination our country gained immeasurable publicity and goodwill.
She continued: At Cable & Wireless, we feel Kim Collins has a lot in common with us, hes local and global, his image displays hard work, excellence and professionalism and hes constantly improving his output which shows that his best is never good enough&And we believe that our association with Kim Collins will be an extra push to prepare him to be at the top of his sports again as there is much more to come from him, this is only the beginning.

Hero figure
Walters mentioned that without a doubt many young persons look up to Kim as a hero and that their intentions are also to associate Collins with many of the programs that they sponsor for the benefit of young people.
By holding up Kim as a role model the message to young people is loud and clear, as our history has shown if you excel and your disciplined, Cable & Wireless will go the extra mile for you, in fact we will continue to look the performances of other young people who have excelled in other disciplines and make similar offers, she CEO said. The company aims to be the biggest corporate supporter of young people in the Federation.
Sponsorship Agreement
It has become the norm in the world of sports that replicable companies share their support behind professional athletes which in itself is important for consistent top quality performance, when this happens we all benefit, because Kim represents all of us, she said.
As the sponsorship takes route Collins will be addressing internal and external audiences on Cable & Wirelesss behalf.
He will also make appearances at official internal functions as well as print, radio and television advertisement, the CEO said. Cable & Wireless will have exclusive rights, with Kim, official telecommunications partner or provider of Kim and official mobile provider.
She added: As we welcome Kim, to the Cable & Wireless family, we do so with great expectations, were confident that he will continue to give his best to his country, the region and the world&and I hope today will be very memorable for him.

Collins thanked Cable & Wireless and said that he is really excited about the sponsorship specifically because of their efficient services that has helped him keep in touch with his family when he is overseas.
What the company is trying to get across is not just the support, but the image of being global, being fast and being efficient in everything they do I use these services everyday and it will make it easier for me and my family to communicate especially now I have a young one on due any minute now, he said.
He continued: When Im away I can use internet and Ill be able to see my family live from a webcam or I can call them or they can call me, and I want to thank them for coming on board and I look forward to having a great relationship with them.
