                                    Hon. Fahie Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Teacher Training


    ~~Adz:Left~~Roadtown, Tortola- As 20 primary school teachers prepare to embark on a two-year college programme, Minister of Education and Culture the Honourable Andrew Fahie has reaffirmed Government’s commitment to the training of teachers in the Territory. 

    Honourable Fahie told the Department of Information and Public Relations that Government is committed to teachers’ development and education.  “This programme is part of Government’s commitment to move our education system from good to great,” he said.

     He added that having qualified teachers will prove immensely beneficial to  the students through improved classroom instruction and delivery.

    The programme which would lead to a Bachelor of Education Degree will commence in September.  Of the 20 teachers eight will study Special Education, seven will specialise in English/Literacy, and five will pursue Social Studies.

    The programme, which aims to maintain a cadre of trained teachers in schools, will be launched on Tuesday, August 19 at the HLSCC Auditorium at 2:00 p.m. 

     Premier, Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, Minister of Education and Culture Honourable Andrew Fahie and President of HLSCC Dr. Michael O’Neal will deliver remarks. Chairman, HLSCC Board of Governors Dr. Charles Wheatley and Deputy Principal, UWI Open Campus Dr. Vivienne Roberts will also be in attendance and will deliver remarks.

     

    This initiative is a partnership between the Ministry of Education, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) and the University of the West Indies.  

    The Ministry’s vision is to develop the mental, physical, social and spiritual being of every individual whom the Ministry serves so that they become responsible and productive in an increasingly vibrant and technological Virgin Islands.
