Two hospitalised in Low Street shooting

    CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – TWO young men are nursing gunshot wounds at the Alexandra Hospital following a close to midnight shooting incident in Low Street, Nevis on Tuesday, August 7, 2012.

     

    A prelease from the Police Public Relations Office states, “Police in Nevis responded to a report of a shooting incident at Low Street about 00:06 hrs on Wednesday 9th August 2012, which lead to two persons being injured and hospitalised. Investigation into this incident continues.”

     

    It further states, “Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact the CID on Nevis at 469-5392, Ext. 27, or, the nearest police station.”

     

    This media house however learnt that the wounded men are Jelani Liburd of Craddock Road, Nevis and Leroy ‘Dice’ Martin of Conaree Village, St. Kitts.

     

    According to reports, sometime before midnight, while Liburd and Martin were walking along Low Street in Charlestown, two masked gunmen suddenly appeared and fired a number of shot at them.

     

    Liburd was shot in the chest, back and leg while Martin was shot in both legs and his hand.

     

    No suspect has since been held responsible for the shooting of the two young men.

     

    In recent months there has been an increase in criminal activities on Nevis, including house breaking and larceny, and the police have been calling on residents to assist them in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

     

    The police declared that anyone with information pertaining to any crime committed on that island could contact the Criminal Investigation Department or the nearest police station. This can be done anonymously and all information received would be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
