ST. JOHN’S, Antigua - TWO men, who were arrested and charged on Sunday in connection with last month’s murder of the British honeymooning couple Benjamin and Catherine Mullany, were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

In a brief public statement, Inspector Cornelius Charles of the Antigua Police Force stated that the two men, who were among six others held for questioning, were taken before a magistrate.

Police officials have stated that further details of the arrest would be given at a press conference scheduled for later today. SKNVibes however learnt that the two men were identified as 20-year-old Kaniel Martin of Tindale Road and 17-year-old Avie Howell of Golden Grove, and had appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Keith Thom at the St. John’s Magistrate’s Court.

Further information received states that the duo are also facing charges for robbery and receiving, and are scheduled to reappear in court on Thursday, September 25 for the committal proceedings. ~~Adz:Right~~

This most recent development in the inspection of the incident follows last week’s arrest of two women, who were charged for possession of items believed to have been stolen from the couple. It was stated by police that information garnered from the women, at that time, has helped them in getting closer to the killers.

The Mullanys, who spent their two-week honeymoon at the Cocos Hotel, were both shot on July 27, the final day of their planned vacation. Mrs. Mullany died immediately from a gunshot wound to the head while her husband, despite efforts to fight for his life, died from resulting complications.

Scotland Yard officials had travelled to Antigua in an effort to assist the police with their investigations into the double homicide.

Meanwhile, Antigua’s government and tourism officials have been undergoing detailed discussions with airline and hotel owners, along with trade partners in the UK, to clearly outline the most effective course of action.

It is hoped that these meetings would return tourist-confidence in the Antiguan tourism product and their assurance in the safety of the paradise isle.
