Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, 9th August 2012:    For its fifty first edition, the Miss Jaycees Pageant unveiled its new judging criteria.  With seventeen Caribbean nations represented, contestants participated in a number of pre show events, from which ten were elected to participate in the final show on Friday 3rd August.  Our very own Ms. Kalia Huggins, representing the Federation was amongst the finalists.

Following, competitive swimsuit, talent and evening wear segments, Ms. Huggins then joined five other successful contestants for the final round of competition, the interview segment.  With consistency and overall good performance, Ms. Huggins earned a place as first runner up, while Ms. Dominica Nadira Lando was crowned queen.

On the heels on Kalia’s success in Antigua, Ms. Trevicia ‘Barbie’ Adams, first runner up in the National Carnival Queen Pageant, also  represented St. Kitts in the Miss Caribbean Culture Pageant in Nevis on August 6th.  Capturing Best Ambassadorial Wear and Best Evening Wear, Ms. Adams,  also walked away with the crown.

Over in China, Markysa O’Louglin, a former contestant in the 2011-2012 National Carnival Pageant, continues to make her country proud as she vies for the Ms. World crown.   Competing against one hundred and eighteen ladies, Ms. O’Loughlin was chosen as one of fourteen finalists for the Talent Competition.   Although not making it to the top five for the second round, Ms. O’Loughlin was able to share a piece of Kittitian- Nevisan culture with a resounding rendition of Viva St. Kitts on pan.

The Honourable Marcella Liburd, Minister of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs and her entire ministry as well as the National Carnival Committee extends congratulations to the three young ladies, Kalia, Trevicia and Markysa.  Congratulations ladies and best of luck in your future endeavours.
