A New Conviction

Kenrick and Lijah
By: Kenrick Georges

I am glad that I expressed my reluctance to publishing “I’m Just Saying” on August 7th. This is because I could not be sure that what was said was out of malice. I was right. The individual called me and was gracious and understanding. She noted some very important portions in the post that she was totally unaware of—my life as it was.

But it was not particularly directed to the individual who made the comment but, more so, to those who have played God, and spoiler with the offerings of creative nationals who give to the nation from their hearts.

From this ordeal, I have learned that, as a people, we are, in fact, more thoughtful and generous than we perceive ourselves to be. The responses to my post proved that in a most emphatic way. For this, I am eternally grateful and thankful. I must admit that my personal outlook of our community has changed for the better. Truly, that which dwells in the hearts of ordinary folks is, by far, more valuable to our nation than that of the few, who make decisions that impact us all.

For the first time in my life, I have felt a genuine warm embrace and appreciation from my community. The circumstances were unfortunate and inadvertent, but nonetheless, I have found the brilliant glow that is hidden under the messy tarnish that we often first see. We have made peace and found a profound understanding. Thanks to all for the kind words and support.

By the way, the brother, Completely Fed Up, was partly right: double shirt, double collar, but never double standard.

    Peace to all.
