Press Release (BVI)

ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, August 13th, 2012   –  As the Government of the Virgin Islands continues to find innovative ways to boost the Territory’s tourism product, the public is being informed that the tendering process for the development of the cruise pier and surrounding areas has been extended to August 28, 2012.

Interested persons are encouraged and invited to submit their concept proposal.

In a recent press release, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. The Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE announced that Government would be issuing an open invitation to tender, and bids would be assessed in line with internationally accepted standards, while ensuring the most competitive offers and best value for public money.

Currently, the invitation to tender is advertised in the local media, both print and online; on the Web sites of BVI Tourist Board, BVI London Office, and Caribbean Community (CARICOM); and in the Wall Street Journal’s global print publications in the United States, Asia and Europe. In the advertisement, interested persons are directed to the Ministry of Finance’s Web site at http://www.finance.gov.vg/ for the terms of reference and additional information. Additionally, persons can contact the Financial Secretary Mr. Neil Smith at 1-284-468-3701 ext. 2144 or e-mail NMSmith@gov.vg.

The objective of the cruise pier development is to improve the cruise terminal so it integrates the seamless transfer of passengers from the latest class of cruise ships now traversing the Caribbean and to heighten visitor's cruise experience within walking distance, through the availability of shops and leisure activities.
