    Heads of Government pay call on SKN Prime Minister

    Douglas meets with Manning and Thomas

     

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Prime Ministers Hon. Patrick Manning of Trinidad and newly elected Hon. Tillman Thomas of Grenada touched down in St. Kitts today (Aug 20) to discuss with St. Kitts-Nevis Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas the establishment a political union between several CARICOM countries.

     

    The two Heads of State arrived at the R. L. Bradshaw International Airport sometime after 3 p.m. and were greeted by a contingent of Ministry of National Security officials and the top echelon of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

     

    The dignitaries and their entourages were taken via vehicular procession to the St. Kitts Marriott Hotel where they were welcomed by Douglas in the Montserrat Room.

     

    Douglas officially congratulated Thomas on his recent win at the polls during his brief welcome remarks.

    This conference follows a meeting in Port of Spain, at which the leaders of four CARICOM countries declared their intent to establish a political union by 2013, insisting that their move would not be detrimental to the wider regional integration movement.

     

    Last Thursday, Manning and Thomas, along with St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves and Prime Minister of

    St. Lucia, Hon. Stephenson King affixed their signatures to a joint declaration outlining their commitment to accelerating the establishment of a CARICOM Single Economy by 2011.

     

    The Prime Ministers arrived in St. Kitts from Dominica following talks held with Hon. Roosevelt Skerritt and subsequent to this discussion, Thomas and Manning will travel to Antigua for a meeting with Prime Minister Hon. Baldwin Spencer then on to Montserrat to hold talks with Chief Minister Hon. Dr. Lowell Lewis to discuss the initiatives agreed at the mini-summit in Trinidad and Tobago. ~~Adz:Right~~
