C-HLP seeks to establish Chapter in St. Kitts

~~Adz:Right~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS a result of their attendance at the recently concluded Caribbean Healthy Lifestyle Project (C-HLP) workshop, a group of young people on St. Kitts was motivated to establish a local chapter.

In the recent past, 11 individuals, eight from St. Kitts and three from Nevis, travelled to Barbados where they joined 110 others from countries around the Caribbean and surrounding areas to participate in the one-week workshop that addressed issues relative to their overall development and contributions to society.

Dominic Stevens, one of the Federation’s representatives at the workshop and the individual selected from the lot to win the Integrity Award, spoke with SKNVibes in an exclusive interview and explained that while St. Kitts and Nevis was represented at the event, there is no C-HLP club in the Federation. He noted, however, that discussions are being had with a view to forming a club in St. Kitts. Stevens further explained that a major sponsor would be needed in order for a local club to be established.

“We are hoping to have a meeting to put things in place. In order for us to open a club here, there must be a major sponsor. The project is one that works mostly in trying to develop them in how to look at life as a whole. It deals with holistic development; it teaches about manners, trust, reliability and anything to do with life, health and sports. It teaches you how to deal with people and keeping your integrity intact with your peers; how to trust people and how to get them involved in the community, which would then help to build a closeness of our people and would help to deviate from all this crime that is happening in our society.”

The award winner explained that the Federation’s participation in the workshop provided the tools to effectively equip young and other persons to deal with life’s situations.

Stevens said he believes that the establishment of a local chapter would speak volumes and would assist in addressing critical issues faced by the country, including crime. He made an appeal for the corporate community to become involved in the venture, which he described as worthwhile.

“I am asking businesses to come onboard and to realise that this is a worthy cause and to realise that this is something that is going to build and help our country on a whole. It is one of those projects that no matter what you are into, you will reap the benefits.”

Persons seeking more information about the project are asked to contact Stevens at 764-9714.
