Vehicle overturns after attempting to overtake

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ATTEMPTS at overtaking went horribly wrong this morning (Aug. 17) resulting in extensive damage to one vehicle. But with the apparent cause of the accident still unknown, members of the Traffic Department are working to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

Patricia Gilbert-Browne of Sandy Point was driving motor jeep P9644 eastward along what is known as Long Path (in the vicinity of Ross Nursing School), and was the third is a queue of three vehicles when the incident occurred.

Sergeant Calvin Amory of the Traffic Department explained that sometime about 7:20 a.m., Gilbert was making an attempt to overtake both vehicles; however, during the process of overtaking the first one, the driver of that vehicle made an attempt to overtake the vehicle at the front of the queue.

As a result, Gilbert was forced to swing back into her lane on the mountain side of the road, but in so doing she ran up on an embankment.

The vehicle flipped and was eventually deposited in the centre of the road on its roof.

Gilbert – this publication understands – sustained only minor injuries but the vehicle was extensively damaged.

Amory indicated that the Traffic Department is making investigations into the incident to determine who was operating the vehicle that was travelling directly to the front of Gilbert. He said after the accident occurred, that person made a U-turn and headed back in a westerly direction.

SKNVibes understands that the Traffic Department has secured information concerning the registration number of the vehicle in question but is making further investigations.
