    Police/Fire officers attend training workshop

    ~~Adz:Right~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE performance of 24 officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts Nevis Fire and Rescue Services are expected to be enhanced following their involvement in a one-week workshop dubbed, “Improving Performance through Strategic Planning”.

     

    The workshop which is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of National Security and the Canadian Government was held at NEMA’s Headquarters and began on Monday, August 18, 2008.

     

    The officers, who are attached to different departments in the institutions including Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Immigration Department, Beat and Patrol and the Out Stations, were exposed to a number of topics inclusive of Effective Leadership, Time Management, Major Management Challenges, Becoming an Effective Manager, Performance Measures in the Police Force and Fire Service, all of which are aimed at sharpening their policing skills.

     

    A police press release stated that Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Liburd officially declared the workshop opened and admonished the participants to always lead by example.

     

    “He said out customers require of us improved performances geared towards quality services, our organizations require of us the deliverance of improved performances geared towards greater efficiency, while our employer requires improved performances from us so as to achieve maximum productivity,” the release said.

     

    The Force Personnel Officer, Wendell Wattley, also spoke at the opening ceremony and noted that the criteria for the selection of participants included their present supervisory and leadership responsibilities or their potential to assume such roles.

     

    “He admonished them to interact with each other across the different agencies and share their knowledge and experiences, and become involved in the process thereby enhancing learning”, a police press release informs.

     

    The workshop was facilitated by the Barbados Productivity Council’s John Pilgrim and funded by the Canadian-Caribbean Cooperation Fund (CCCF).
