Berlie Francis
By: SKABA, Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, August 20th 2012 - In what can only be described as “electric” the Digicel SKABA Final Four tipped off Sunday evening at basketball city with two highly anticipated match-ups.

Game 1 of the evening saw two former Champions in the multi-time champs Horsfords Ghetto Roots taking on the 2005 Champions the LIME Fig Tree Revellers.  Fig Tree got off to a flying start running circles around Ghetto Roots who seemed unprepared and surprised by the Fig Tree offense. The Revellers led by as much as 22 points in the first half and ended the half up 46-31.

Fig Tree continued the onslaught in the 3rd period however a determined Ghetto Roots clawed their way back into the game . By the end of the 3rd period Ghetto Roots came within 5 points as the quarter ended 65-60 to fig tree. Fig Tree again began the final quarter well with a series of plays and shots involving sharp-shooter Ray “Lomax” Liddie who shot well during the entire game and  the young energetic Graeme Browne  who kept the Revellers energised.

However the Ghetto Roots held their composure and behind the steady hard-nosed play of Berlie Francis the team gained the lead for the first time in the game within the last 5 minuts of the final period. The 6’-7” William Natta had a huge presence in the paint and Troy “Jasbo” Wattley as always was quite clinical in his steady scoring down low. Despite an injured knee Levi “By-By” Fyfeild led all scorers and Rymal “Bally” Browne’s  cool, calm play benefitted the multi-time champs in the last minutes of the game.

The Game ended with  Ghetto Roots completing an impressive come from behind victory 81-77. Game 2 in the best of 3 series will take place on Thursday at 8pm at basketball city. It will be win or go home for Fig Tree on Thursday.
