BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is currently investigating an officer who is said to have shot and killed a man last night (Aug. 19) in Shadwell.

Earlier today, this media house published an article headlined “Gas Station owner shot in Sunday night robbery”, within which it was stated that a man, considered to be mentally challenged, was shot dead by a member of the Police Force.

This incident occurred after 11:30 p.m. following the police’s response to the gas station’s robbery during which the owner, Frederick Gillard, was shot in the leg.

The gas station, Texaco, is situated within Gillard’s Enterprises at Douglas Commercial Development along the FT Williams Highway.

Information reaching this publication stated that the police had surrounded a building in the Shadwell area in search of the two suspects. And while there, a man emerged from within in a boisterous manner, confronted the officers and was shot dead.

SKNVibes was told that the man’s name was given as Eustace ‘Boukie’ Benjamin of Basseterre.

This afternoon, a release from the Police Public Relations Office states, “The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force Criminal Investigation Division is investigating an officer involved shooting that left a man who attacked police with a knife, fatally wounded.”

It also states that the police had responded to a robbery of a gas station that was in progress and they were directed to the area where the suspects ran.

“During the course of a building search for the suspects, an officer was assaulted with a knife. In the process of defending himself against the attacker, the assailant was fatally wounded,” the release added.

The Police Press and Public Information Officer, Inspector Lyndon David, declared that investigation into the matter is ongoing.
