BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MISS World St. Kitts-Nevis was seen to be a great ambassador for the Federation as the pageant recently came to an end.

The Miss World Finals was held on August 18, and won by host country China.

Many persons tuned into E! Television to view the pageant and extended an outpour of support toward our representative.

The dread-lock beauty- Markysa O’Loughlin, won the hearts and support of many of the people of SKN, as she stayed true to herself throughout the entire journey leading up to the final night in the pageant.

She left the Federation about a month ago, and participated in many activities while keeping her fans on her Facebook Fanpage Miss World-St. Kitts-Nevis updated regularly.

One of her achievements during the pageant was reaching the top 15 for the talent competition of the pageant.

Although she did not make the Top 5 in talent, her performance on the steel pan to Ellie Matt’s ‘Viva St. Kitts’ was featured prominently in the talent segment’s highlight that aired on television.

O’Loughlin stated on her fanpage that making the Top 15 was one of her most memorable moments.

“The fact that I got selected among 15 other contestants to perform my steel pan for the world to see was mind blowing. I really enjoyed that and I also got to share my culture with others because the piece I played was ‘Viva St. Kitts’ by King Ellie Matt. It was most touching when girls would see me in the hallway or at lunch and would sing to me "I love St. Kitts",” she said.

O‘Loughlin visited many historical and memorable places while in China, including places in Mongolia and Shanghai and is now back in the Federation.

In a previous interview with SKNVibes, O’Loughlin said that she was hoping to coordinate a ‘Miss World SKN’ pageant to ensure that St. Kitts and Nevis has representation every year.

The 62nd Annual Miss World Pageant was held under the theme ‘Beauty with a Purpose’.  The beauty queen stated that since the Federation was making a bold move towards energy efficiency, she used that as her platform for the pageant.

“This is something that I'm particularly interested in,” she said. “St. Kitts and Nevis is one of the most "green" Caribbean countries and we can benefit greatly from our eco-tourism product for years to come,” she said.
