BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, MARCH 22ND 2005 "A new Executive and Board of Directors have been elected for the St. Kitts and Nevis Association of Florida, Inc. (SNAF).
The Board of Directors elected to serve for two years are Mervin Duport, Glendora Merchant-Crosley, Joseph Morgan and Anselm Rawlins. The Executive Officers are Austin Caines, President; Crispin Rawlins, Vice President; Morrice Tyrell, Treasurer; and Eulinice Sprouse, Secretary.
Incorporated in 1998, the St. Kitts and Nevis Association of Florida, Inc. is governed by a volunteer board of directors and is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to strengthen the St. Kitts and Nevis community in Florida.
Its objectives also includes the establishment of cooperative partnerships with other groups and communities within the state of Florida, and further the development and international awareness of the two-island Federation through programmes that focus on health care, education, sports and culture.
The association also cultivates economic and cultural linkages between Florida and the St. Kitts and Nevis and promotes institutions of higher learning by disseminating information, hosting seminars and raising funds for scholarships.
The St. Kitts and Nevis Association of Florida offers a variety of special events during the year, some of which help to raise money for the Association. Every year in September, several hundred people attend SNAF's signature event, the Annual Independence Dinner and Ball.
In March and October of each year, the St. Kitts and Nevis Association participates in Unite-A-Fest and the Miami-Dade Carnival respectively.
The Association also hosts its annual Membership Banquet and Family Picnic in May and June respectively.
In keeping with its mission, the organisation established a Scholarship Fund to assist college/university students, donated books, toys, educational materials and medical supplies to the hospitals, children's home, schools and community organisations in St. Kitts and Nevis and South Florida.
Financial assistance was given to two St. Kitts and Nevis nationals, one whose financial difficulties became a matter of public record and another, who needed critical medical care.
SNAF members use their talents, drive and dedication to support its core objectives - promoting value-added benefits to Kittitians and Nevisians in education, culture, health, and entertainment and sports.
"As Kittitians and Nevisians get involve and join together to help our nationals who really need and deserve our help. Remember, we will not get any place by sitting on the sideline - success is a journey, not a destination," said a former President and Executive Director, Ms. Helena Hull.
