                                             New Home Handed Over to Disabled Man     


    Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Social Development Honourable Dancia Penn, OBE, QC, visited Mr. Norbert Potter at Little Apple Bay earlier this month, and handed over the keys for a newly constructed single-bedroom home.     Roadtown, Tortola- Mr. Norbert Potter of Little Apple Bay is enjoying the security and comfort of his new single-bedroom home at Little Apple Bay after it was recently completed with assistance from the Ministry of Health and Social Development.

     

    Earlier this month the Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Social Development Honourable Dancia Penn, OBE, QC visited Mr. Potter and officially handed over the keys for his new home.

     

    The Honourable Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Education and Culture and Representative of the First District, where the house is located, Honourable Andrew Fahie and Territorial-at-Large Representative Honourable Irene Penn-O’Neal.

     

    Her delegation also included the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social Development Ms. Petrona N. Smith and several other senior officials. One of Mr. Potter’s sons was in attendance to witness the presentation.

     

    Among other things, the Honourable Minister thanked the contractor Mr. Desmond Molyneux along with past and present members of staff from Ministry of Health and Social Development, for their contributions towards the successful completion of the house. She made special mention of the former Minister of Health Mr. Ronnie W. Skelton who was responsible for starting the project and the former Minister of Communications and Works Mr. Elmore Stoutt who also contributed. 

     

    ~~Adz:Right~~ Remarks were also made by the Honourable Andrew Fahie and the Honourable Irene Penn-O’Neal. Lay preacher in the Methodist Church Ms. Magdalene Blyden did the dedicatory prayer at the ceremony, which was chaired by the Permanent Secretary.

     

    The Government, through the Ministry of Health and Social Development, initiated the project to construct a new home for Mr. Potter after he lost his home a few years ago during the passage of a hurricane. Mr. Potter’s new home has, among other features, an access ramp for ensuring safe and easy entry for its occupant, who is an amputee, and is confined to a wheelchair.

     

    The Ministry of Health and Social Development aims to provide leadership that promotes health, social well-being, and a safe environment as positive resources for living and sustainable development. Among other things, it is responsible for protecting and promoting the health and social development of the people of the Territory.
