Basseterre, St. Kitts (March 22, 2005): Eight folklore practitioners are scheduled to leave the Federation to participate in a festival with a regional flair.
Five clowns from the Eagle Squadron and three members of the Four Ways Crazy Clown Troupe are heading to Barbuda on Friday, to participate in the debut of the Caribbean Cultural Festival.
The event, organized by the Holy Trinity Young Leaders in collaboration with the Barbuda Local Council, will run from March 24 to 28. It will be celebrated under the theme Strengthening Caribbean Society: Our Vision, Our Culture, Our People. The Federations representatives will be amongst folklore groups from St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Montserrat and Antigua.
While there, the clowns will be engaged in a number of activities including a street parade. Their participation was arranged local Council of Barbuda and the Department of Culture in St. Kitts.
Lorna Ava Henry, dance specialist in the Department of Culture explained that this was an excellent opportunity to have the local group showcase the unique St. Kitts and Nevis culture. We are happy for the promotion of the traditional artform within the region and are happy that the Caribbean people give credence to our culture and folklore, she stressed. Ms. Henry also wished the performers well on their visit to Barbuda.
The group is expected to return on March 29.
