    Police/Court Round Up

    ~~Adz:Right~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ROBERT BENJAMIN of Lower Fiennes Avenue was charged with drug-related offences after police conducted a search at his residence yesterday.

     

    “On Friday 22nd August 2008 Police executed a search warrant on the premises of Robert Benjamin of Lower Fiennes Avenue for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition. Eighty-four marijuana plants were found growing in his back yard and a quantity of cured marijuana was also found in the house,” a police press release informs.

     

    He was charged with one count each of “cultivation of marijuana”, “possession of marijuana” and “possession of marijuana with intent to supply” and is expected to appear before the court shortly.

     

    The items were all taken into police custody.

     

    COURT CONVICTIONS

     

    A Belle Vue man, who was taken before the court after resisting arrest and threatening to kill a police officer, was convicted and punished in accordance.

     

    Julian Samuel stood before the District “B” Magistrate Court on Thursday on charges of “making use of threatening language” and “resisting arrest” and, on the former, was placed on a bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for a six month period while, on the latter charge, he was fined $1 500 to be paid within three months.  Failure to pay the fine would result in the imposition of a three-month custodial sentence. April 17 was the date of the commission of the offence.

     

    Three other persons, who appeared before the said court, were convicted of battery.

     

    Lodge Villager John Willette was convicted for beating Florence Francis of the said area and was ordered to pay $1 200 compensation to her. The sum is to be paid within four months or he would have to serve two months imprisonment.

     

    A $1 000 fine was handed down to Benjamin Ward of Tabernacle after he was convicted for beating Travis Hope also of the same Village. The sum is to be paid within six months or he would have to serve one month at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    Zylon Carey of Tabernacle was placed on a six-month-bond after conviction of “battery” and “making use of threatening language” against Franklyn Moses, who resides in the same area.  Carey was ordered to stay no less than 100 feet from the virtual complainant.
