BVIEC Repairs High Voltage Joint on Main Street

~~Adz:Right~~ Roadtown, Tortola- The British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) will begin repairing a High Voltage Joint on Upper Main Street directly in front of the Seventh Day Adventist Church tomorrow as part of the Feeder Relocation Project.

Acting General Manager of the BVIEC, Mr. Henry Creque said during the testing phase of the project it was realised that this high voltage joint, which is a connection between two separate lengths of cable, was not performing to the expected capacity.

Excavation to repair the joint will begin on Wednesday, August 27 at 7:00 p.m. and will end on Monday September 1.  To facilitate the flow of traffic in the area, Upper Main Street beginning from the foot of Joe’s Hill Road to the beginning of Long Bush Road will be opened to one lane of traffic.  Only motorists travelling east will be given access.  Persons travelling west will have to use alternate routes.

The Wickham’s Cay I Feeder Relocation project began in October, 2007 to place electrical lines underground as part of efforts to upgrade the electrical infrastructure of the commercial and financial districts, beautify Road Town and provide the necessary reserve capacity to supply Wickham’s Cay I, which is rapidly developing.

The mission of the BVIEC is to aid in the development of the Territory’s electrical infrastructure by adequately supplying a reliable and continuous electricity supply to the entire BVI at an affordable cost.
