Barbados dominates the 13 & Under Regional Cricket Tournament

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TEAM Barbados has, once again, dominated the 13 & Under Government of St. Kitts and Nevis Regional Cricket Tournament, making this their second win in a row.

     

    Six teams from various Caribbean islands took part in five rounds of cricket over a two week period, playing a total of 15 matches.

     

    Second place was Dominica, Nevis won third place while fourth fifth and sixth places went to St. Kitts, Montserrat and Anguilla respectively.

     

    At a closing ceremony held at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium today (August 29), the young cricketers were awarded with medals, trophies plaques and other gifts as tokens of appreciation and rewards for hard work.

     

    At the end of each match, a 'Player of the Match' was selected and today, they received plaques and medals for their accomplishments.

     

    A member of each team was also selected as the 'Most Valuable Player', each of whom was awarded a plaque, a cricket bat and pads, a dictionary, a school bag with accessories, and a laptop.

     

    The awardees were: Jacob Parles of Anguilla with 43 runs and four wickets; Limar Pierce of Barbados with 111 runs, two catches and six stumpings; Leic Charles of Dominica with 141 runs, the highest score being 107 not out; Joshua Grant of Montserrat with 59 runs; Jamie Cornelius with 99 runs; and Kwame Challenge with 99 runs, the highest score being 56, four wickets for 66 runs.

     

    Winning the Len Harris Batsman Award for having the most runs was Leic Charles of Dominica with 141 runs who also won the Livingston Sergeant Batsman Award for the highest individual score with 107 not out.

     

    He also won the Victor Eddy Batsman Award for scoring a century, as well as the Elquemedo WIllet Government of St. Kitts and Nevis 13 & Under Cricketer of the Tournament for 2012.

     

    Camarie Boyce of Barbados won the Leroy Coury Bowler Award for having five or more wickets in an inning with 5/12 vs St. Kitts.

     

    He also won the Deryck Parry Bowler Award for having the best bowling figures of 5/12 vs St. Kitts, as well as the Edgar Gilbert Bowler  Award for obtaining the most wickets of 13 for 46 runs.

     

    Limar Pierce of Barbados won the Auckland Hector Best Wicket Keeper Award with six stumping, two catches and 111 runs.

     

    The Keith Arthurton Award for Best Fielding Team was given to Barbados, while the Hon. Glenn Phillip Award for the most disciplined team was given to Montserrat.

     

    Speaking at the closing ceremony, Hon. Glenn Phillip, Minister of Sports, said that the Federation's government sincerely believes in investing in youths especially in the sporting arena, noting that "this tournament is a cornerstone of West Indian cricket".

     

    "The government of St. Kitts and Nevis believes wholeheartedly in our youths and we feel that an investment in our youths is an investment in the future," he said.

     

    "You have shown tremendous pride and dedication towards the game of cricket," he told the teams.

     

    The Sports Minister encouraged the youths to continue to be dedicated and disciplined towards the sport of cricket.

     

    The Tournament is in its 16th year, and the matches were played between Sunday, August 19 and Saturday, August 25 with the TDC sponsored ten/ten competition being played on August 27 and 28.
