BRADES, Montserrat, August 28th 2012 - The Royal Montserrat Defence Force will be conducting its Annual Training Camp from Friday 31st August to Sunday 9th September 2012.

According to a statement from the RMDF, the focus of this year’s camp will be on one of the RMDF’s core objectives which, is to provide assistance to the Civil Authorities.   During the 10 days of training, RMDF members will be exposed to training to prepare them to give assistance to the island of a non-military nature.

Lieutenant Colin Fergus says “the training will concentrate on Disaster Preparedness and Response, Land-based Search and Rescue, First Aid and Fire Fighting.   These will be done in addition to the basic military subjects of Drill, Weapons Training, Land Navigation, Radio Communications and Basic Field Tactics.”

The training will also expose the RMDF members to the other main agencies (Police, Fire, DMCA and Health) that normally work together in the event of an emergency or disaster.  The training is also in an effort to improve coordination and communication among the various response agencies and to get a further appreciation of the unique capabilities and challenges being faced by each organisation.

This year’s training camp will also coincide with the visit of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessel “RFA ARGUS” and the British Defence Adviser based in Kingston, Jamaica.
