Barbados wins TDC 10/10 Regional Cricket Competition

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - BARBADOS cricket continues to dominate - they not only captured the title of the 13 & Under Government of St. Kitts and Nevis Regional Cricket Tournament but the TDC 10/10 aspect of the tournament as well.

     

    The ten/ten competition was played on August 27 and 28 with six teams from various Caribbean islands taking part.

     

    Placing second was Dominica while the other teams were Anguilla, Montserrat, Nevis, and St. Kitts.

     

    At a closing ceremony held at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium today (August 29), the young cricketers were awarded with medals, trophies plaques and other gifts as tokens of appreciation and rewards for hard work.

     

    The award for the team with the most sixes in the tournament was given to Barbados, which also won the Award for the team with the most fours and the award for Best Fielding Team.

     

    The Highest Individual Score Award went to Terrel Toussaint of Dominica with 51 not out vs Anguilla. He also won the award for Most Valuable Player.

     

    The Best Bowling Figures Award went to Tishon Francis of St. Kitts while the Best Individual Catch Award was given to Nagee Holder of Barbados.

     

    Speaking at the closing ceremony, Hon. Glenn Phillip, Minister of Sports said that the Federation's government sincerely believes in investing in youths especially in the sporting arena, noting that "this tournament is a cornerstone of West Indian cricket".

     

    "The government of St. Kitts and Nevis believes wholeheartedly in our youths and we feel that an investment in our youths is an investment in the future," he said.

     

    "You have shown tremendous pride and dedication towards the game of cricket," he told the teams.

     

    The Sports Minister encouraged the youths to continue to be dedicated and disciplined towards the sport of cricket.

     

    The TDC sponsored 10/10 competition is in its fourth year, while the 13 & Under Regional Cricket Tournament is in its 16th.
