                                                              SCASPA Celebrates Fifteen Years

~~Adz:Left~~ Basseterre, St. Kitts- Innovating for a Sustainable Future is the theme under which the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary.  September 1 marks the establishment of the Authority, and two weeks of activities have been planned to commemorate this occasion.

The celebrations which involve staff, customers, students and the general public commenced on August 25 and will end on September 6.  Staff activities include worship at the Zion Moravian Church, a Fun and Sports Day and a social evening.  September 1  will be fittingly celebrated as Customer Appreciation Day.

On this day, customers will be served refreshments and given mementos as an expression of gratitude.  High school students will be addressed during assembly or class sessions, and groups of third, fourth and fifth formers have been invited on an educational tour of the air and sea ports.

Focussing on students with special needs and boys at risk, SCASPA selected the Special Education Unit and the Save our Sons Home for community projects. Staff from the Maintenance Department painted a classroom and the front of the Special Education Unit, and the eight residents of the Save our Sons Home in Sandy Point will be better equipped to expand their learning with the donation of a computer.

Over the years, SCASPA has invested heavily in the development of the Federation.  Expanded and upgraded infrastructure at the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport and the revetment at Port Zante which protects the pier and cruise terminal are only two examples of capital projects which have boosted the economy of St. Kitts and Nevis.

In addition to the Airport and Port Zante, SCASPA operates the Deep Cargo and Basseterre Ferry Ports.  Prior to September 1993, the Airport, then named the Golden Rock Airport, and the seaports were run as separate entities.  Through strategic planning, the Ports Authority will become more innovative in the coming years to achieve greater profitability and efficiency, and better support the development of tourism and international trade.
