BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DRESSED in little bows, princess dresses and waistcoats, tiny totters of the Tender Loving Care Pre-School and Toddlers Training Center graduated yesterday, August 30, to higher levels in education.

Five students have graduated to Kindergarten level of various schools while the other children have graduated to upper levels e.g. Nursery One children have graduated to Nursery Two, Nursery Two children graduated to Pre-school One, and Pre-School One tots have graduated to Pre-School Two.

The ceremony was held at the school grounds located on Freedom Street, New Ponds Site with a packed programme of recital and song.

Opening remarks were made by Averil Archibald, owner of the school while the invocation was done by Pastor Tena Guishard of the Rivers of Living Water Christian Center.

Special awards were given to the students who made the school’s first honor roll while there were also special awards for the crowning of ‘Outstanding Dad’ and ‘Outstanding Mom’.

The award for Outstanding Mom went to Akilia Francis of Sandy Point while Ameer Ali won the award for Outstanding Dad.

The pre-school has been around for five years and was started by Archibald who has been in the teaching profession since 1969.

She also founded a college which caters to those who want to gain CXC subjects and also offers secretarial training.

On the founding of TLC, she said, “To me it was more on a spiritual level… that tugging at my heart to start the day care and pre-school. I’ve been doing Higher Learning and I also conduct seminars and workshops, so I wasn’t really thinking daycare, but for some reason it started tugging at my heart,” she said.

TLC hopes to give children a head start so that when they enter primary school, they are among the top five in their classes.
