Kittitian achieves academic success at renowned US medical school

Shanedelle Norford
By: Arian Hull, Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, September 3rd 2012 - The Federation of St. Kitts has produced yet another mover and shaker that the island can be proud of.

Shanedelle Norford, at twenty-four years of age, graduated from Boston University School of Medicine on May 19th, 2012. She hails from Cayon, where she completed all of her early education, and left the island to pursue studies in St. Thomas after graduating from the Cayon High School. She was an outstanding student while there, and graduated as the valedictorian of the class of 1999. She spent three years at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) where she was selected to participate in the Early Medical School Selection Program (EMSSP) which allowed her to complete her medical degree at prestigious Boston University. Her educational career is scattered with a variety of awards and she, most notably, was chosen to travel to Nicaragua to administer at a local clinic this past January. Shanedelle chose pathology as her specialty field, and has since accepted a pathology residency at renowned Orlando Regional Medical Center in Florida. Following this four-year position, she intends to pursue a forensic pathology fellowship in Miami and build her expertise and knowledge to accomplish her future goals. One such goal is to return to St. Kitts and launch both a forensic pathology laboratory and examination office. She doesn’t intend to stop there either, but wants to extend her services regionally, possibly to South America. This young lady has set her sights high, and if her past accomplishments are any indication, there is a lot more on her horizon.

Many people have been instrumental in Shanedelle’s life, but most of all she
credits her success to God, as she strives to let His will be accomplished in her life. Her grandmother Delores Hodge, who nurtured her as she grew, her mother Suzette Hodge, her teachers at the Cayon High School, and numerous family and friends, have given her encouragement and support throughout the years and have all contributed invaluably to her success.

Shanedelle has these words for the young lives in St. Kitts: “Never be afraid to dream big, with hard work and discipline you can do anything you put your mind to. With everything, put God first and He shall do wonders in your life.”
