Ghetto Roots takes game 1 of SKABA Finals

25 year Veteran Ghetto Roots Forward Kiethley Hicks
By: SKABA, Press Release

BASSETERRE ST. Kitts,  September 3rd 2012 - The Horsford's Ghetto Roots took Game 1 on Sunday evening, of the 2012 DIGICEL SKABA Finals.

Despite having,  what many are describing as a very sub-par game,  the Ghetto Roots still managed to squeeze out a win over the energetic youthful Challengers Exodus team.

In what is being described as a COUNTRY VS TOWN affair, both teams began the game very sluggish. Although slow starts have almost become synonomous with Ghetto Roots , that certainly isn’t the case for Exodus. The Ghetto Roots led by as much as 8 points in the first quarter before losing that lead in the dying moments of the period to end the half down 36-35 to the young energetic Challengers.

The Horsfords Ghetto Roots began the 2nd half aggressively and quickly built a 10 point lead midway through the 3rd quarter. They maintained a lead for the remainder of the game being up by as much as 12 points to just 4 in the final minutes of the game.

In the dying moments of the game the 25 plus year SKABA Veteran Player Kiethely Hicks took team Ghetto Roots squarely on his shoulders and simply toyed with the Challengers defender Delvin Nias  who , it was obvious, was simply no match for the 6’-7” Hicks. Hicks took advantage of the single coverage and scored about 6 straight points in the final period to put it away for Ghetto Roots and give them 1-0 series advantage.

The Exodus dynamic duo of Tazzy and Princey themselves had a subpar game for their standards. The determined Tazzy was not his usual self, attacking the basket and draining those 3 point bombs that he is very capable of doing.
Exodus big man Shabba Forbes was as usual , dominant and was creating havoc for the Ghetto Roots defense. But Forbes was the only relatively consistent scorer in the team for tonight’s game.

The final score for Game 1 was 82-78 Ghetto Roots.

The Best of 5 series is far from over and no doubt Challengers Exodus will be organizing themselves to come full force for Game 2 .

Game 2 takes place on Thursday at 8pm.
