BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) have recently been elevated in rank by Commissioner of Police Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn.

Two of the three officers, Corporal Joseph Wyatt of the St. Paul’s Police Station and Corporal Phillip Eddy of the National Prosecution Unit, were promoted to Acting Sergeants, while Constable Leon Powell of the Strategic Intelligence Unit was promoted to Acting Corporal.

The three officers’ promotion took effect from Thursday, August 23.

A release from the Police Public Relations Office said, “Commissioner Walwyn is pleased to announce that three members of the force received duly earned promotions.”

According to the Police Act, the Commissioner of Police is authorised to promote any member of the force ranging from the rank of Special Constable to Corporal. He must however inform the Governor-General, the Prime Minister and the Police Service Commission of his intention after receipt of recommendations from the officers’ Commanders of Supervisors.

Speaking with this media house, Sergeant Wyatt, who has to date given 29 years yeoman service to the force, said that he had served in a number of departments on both islands including the Criminal Investigation Department and the White Collar Crime Unit, and had completed most of his courses in Jamaica.

SKNVibes learnt that Eddy is the holder of a Law degree and his performance in the National Prosecution Unit is highly commendable, while Powell has the distinction of being the Best Graduating Student on his Recruit Course and also performs credibly in the Strategic Intelligence Unit.

According to Commissioner Walwyn, no member of the force with less than 12 years service would be promoted, and the three newly-promoted officers have all successfully completed the relevant promotional exams.

He indicated that in addition to the successful completion of promotional exams, members of the force are promoted on their efficiency, dedication and professionalism towards the execution of their duties.

“I believe in upward mobility and in order for officers to advance in the agency they must be prepared academically and also to avail themselves for opportunities,” Commissioner Walwyn said.
