Two imprisoned with hard labour, one fined over EC$3 000

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE men appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court last week and were found guilty and convicted on the charges proffered against them.

     

    According to a police press release, Rajham Ferdinand of Lower Monkey Hill was convicted and sentenced to nine months imprisonment with hard labour for possession of a firearm. He was also convicted and sentenced to a further nine-month with hard labour for possession of ammunition.

     

    The offences were committed on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 and the sentences are to run concurrently.

     

    Also appearing at the court was Shakeem Parris of Shadwell Housing Project. He was convicted and sentenced to serve 18 months with hard labour at Her Majesty’s Prison for possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

     

    He was also convicted but cautioned for possession of cannabis, and the two offences were committed on Tuesday, June 19, 2012.

     

    According to the then Police Press and Public Information Officer, Sergeant Stephen Hector, on the day in question, officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force were conducting a series of Stop and Search Operations for controlled drugs, arms and ammunition in Newtown, Taylors, Shadwell, Conaree and Monkey Hill, where several vehicles were stopped and searched.

     

    He noted that while searching in one of the vehicles, officers found two backpacks belonging to Ferdinand of Parris containing a large quantity of cannabis.

     

    He also noted that during the search of the vehicle within which the two men were, police had found one Glock Model 27 Calibre .40 semi-automatic pistol and six matching rounds of ammunition.

     

    The PIO said that a warrant was subsequently executed on the two men’s premises where another large quantity of cannabis was found in Ferdinand’s home.
     
    SKNVibes learnt that the cannabis was found hanging in Ferdinand’s bathroom.

     

    Hector also said that the cannabis found in the two men’s possession has an estimated street value of EC$210 000.

     

    And Devon Liburd of Lime Kiln was also convicted at the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court for malicious damage committed on Monday, May 21, 2012 and was fined $1 000 to be paid in four months or be confined in prison for one month. He was also ordered to pay EC$913.26 in one month to the victim or be confined for one month in prison.
     
    Liburd was also convicted on battery charges committed on the said day and was ordered to pay the victim $1 250 for medical, pain and suffering in three months or be imprisoned for month. He was also charged with simple wounding and was convicted and cautioned.

     

    Meanwhile, the police press release indicated that Enslie Lewis of McKnight was charged with three counts of assault with a firearm; an offence he allegedly committed at the Sir Lee Llewellyn Moore Judicial and Legal Services Complex on Thursday, August 16, 2012.

     

    Also, Enver Pemberton of Lovers Lane, Cayon was charged with threatening language, allegedly committed on Sunday, August 26, 2012.

     

    And on Nevis, Ngoc Van of Almond Garden was charged for driving without insurance and driving without valid and unexpired licence. These offences were allegedly committed on Monday, August 27, 2012.
