~~Adz:Left~~ WASHINGTON DC– THE upcoming St. Kitts and Nevis Silver Jubilee Independence celebrations are anticipated by many nationals residing in the US, particularly those in New York.

The Embassy of St. Kitts and Nevis has planned a packed weekend of events slated for September 5- to commemorate the 25th year of independence. Many hopeful nationals have already begun responding positively to the scheduled three-day event.

Topping the list of events is an Art Exhibition that will run from September 2-7 and will be held in the Gallery of Heroes at the Organisation of American States (OAS). Patrons would be able to buy outstanding pieces of local art work or just observe the work of artists from the Federation.

September 5 and 6 will be the Grand Reception and the Gala and Awards respectively. The Independence Reception would be held in the Hall of the Americas at the OAS. The Master of Ceremonies for 25th Independence Gala and Awards will be Peosy Southwell while the list of National Awardees include Loughton Sargeant, for ongoing social outreach and community development; Robert Kelly, for dedicated national tourism promotional service; Dr. Eustace Huggins, for his commitment to healthcare and to the advancement of Nevis and Nevisians; and Elston Nero (King Ellie Matt), for his outstanding contributions to music and culture. There is also a Heritage Award that will be presented to Nevisian-born New York Legislator Bertram L. Baker, who was the first African-American elected to political office in Brooklyn.

Additionally, a Dialogue and Expo will both be held on September 6. The Dialogue will act as an opportunity for nationals to exchange views in relation to issues geared toward preparing St. Kitts and Nevis for a competitive and solid future.  Similarly, the Expo will provide an avenue for nationals who are business owners to display their products and services at the Hilton (in the vicinity of the Dialogue).

The Capital Hilton Hotel has agreed to extend its date for special rates offered to St. Kitts and Nevis ‘group reservations’. For this special weekend, a commemorative, full-colour magazine, which offers a presentation of congratulatory remarks and messages from political icons in St. Kitts and Nevis and the USA, will be issued. The weekend of events culminates with a Church Service to celebrate in thanks and praise for 25 years of success.

For reservations and or further information, contact the Mission in New York, the Consulate in Toronto, Association Heads in Miami and Atlanta, the Embassy of St. Kitts and Nevis (New York) or the Embassy Jubilee Planning Committee members.
