Police arrest five; 15 convicted in St. Kitts and Nevis Magistrates’ Courts

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE on St. Kitts and sister isle Nevis have recently charged five individuals for offences ranging from larceny to cannabis possession, while 15 others were convicted for various offences at the Basseterre, Sandy Point and Charlestown Magistrates’ Courts.

     

    Press release from the Police Public Relations Office states that Ashton Davis of Boyd’s Village was charged for the offence of larceny, which was committed at Ritual Coffee House in Frigate Bay on Thursday, August 30, 2012; while Kelvin Taylor of Upper Fiennes Avenue, Basseterre was charged with obstruction under the Drug Act, possession of cannabis, possession of cannabis with intent to supply and cultivation – offences which were committed on Monday (Sept. 3).

     

    On Nevis, police have arrested and charged Ian Duberry of Barnes Ghaut and Darren Menzack of Camps Village for possession of cannabis; offences which police said they had committed last Friday (Aug. 31).
     
    They both appeared Tuesday (Sept. 4) before Her Worship Jasmine Clarke at the Charlestown Magistrate’s Court and were convicted and fined EC$800 each to be paid in three months. If in default, they will have to serve a three-month jail term with hard labour.

     

    And Warren Brown of Rawlins Village was charged with house breaking and larceny, allegedly committed on Saturday, May 26, 2012.

     

    At the Charlestown Magistrate’s Court, six persons appeared before Her Worship Jasmine Clarke on Tuesday (Sept. 4) and all were convicted on the charges proffered against them. However, five of them were also fined a total of EC$3 800 and one was cautioned.

     

    Kevin Chapman of Browne Pasture was convicted for a July 1, 2012 possession of cannabis offence and fined EC$1 000 to be paid in six months or he will have to serve six months in prison with hard labour; while Tasha Thompson of Stoney Grove was convicted and fined EC$800 for insulting language committed at the Four Seasons Resort on Saturday, February 18 2012. She has one month to pay the fine or serve a similar period with hard labour at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    Jason Challengers of Bricklyn was convicted and fined EC$500 for possession of cannabis, which he was ordered to pay within one month or be incarcerated for a similar period. The offence was committed on August 24, 2012.

     

    Alvert Christmas was convicted and fined EC$1 000 for June 22, 2012 offences of driving without due care and attention and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. He was given one month to pay the fine, but if in default he will be imprisoned for one month with hard labour.

     

    And William Thompson Jr. was convicted and fined EC$500 for driving without due care and attention; an offence he committed on July 1, 2012 at Pump Road. He too will have to serve one month in prison if he does not pay the fine within three months, while Magistrate Clarke convicted but cautioned Ngoe Von of Almond garden for driving without licence, driving without insurance and driving without due care and attention in New Castle on August 27, 2012.

     

    The police release also stated that earlier this week seven persons (six at the Sandy Point Magistrate’s Court and one at the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court) were convicted and fined a total of EC$5 600.

     

    At the Sandy Point Magistrate’s Court, Geron Hamilton of Bradshaw Avenue in St. Paul’s Village was convicted for unlawful possession, which was committed on August 24, 2012 in the said village, and fine EC$800 to be paid by Friday (Sept. 14) or be confined for 30 days in prison with hard labour.

     

    Alsha Henry, also of St. Paul’s Village, was convicted and fined a similar amount for malicious damage committed in Dieppe Bay on February 27, 2012. He too was ordered to pay the fine by Friday (Sept. 14) or serve one month in prison with hard labour.

     

    Cleston Phillip of The Alley in Sandy Point was convicted and fined EC$600 for possession of cannabis; an offence he committed in his home town on April 6, 2012 and will have to serve 30 days in prison with hard labour if the fine is not paid before September 16, 2012.

     

    Craig Challenger of St. Paul’s Village was convicted for driving without insurance, failing to produce licence and failing to produce insurance; offences he committed on April 29, 2012. For the first and second offences, he was fined EC$100 each and EC$300 for the third one. He was ordered to pay the fines on or before Friday (Sept. 14) or will have to serve 60 days in prison with hard labour.

     

    Romaith Suecharran of Upper Market Street, Basseterre was convicted and fined EC$600 for driving without due care and attention. He committed the offence in Sandy Point on December 24, 2011 and has to pay the fine by September 16, 2012 or be jailed for 30 days with hard labour.

     

    Lisa Francis of St. Paul’s Village was convicted for larceny committed on December 22, 2011 and was fined EC$500 to be paid by September 30, 2012 or be incarcerated at Her Majesty’s Prison for one month with hard labour.

     

    She was also convicted on another larceny charge which she committed on May 14 this year and was fined EC$500, also to be paid by September 30, 2012 or serve a three-month prison term with hard labour.

     

    And at the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court, Dennis Percival of Pines Garden, Shadwell was convicted for possession of cannabis; an offence he committed on January 18 2012. He was fined EC$1500 which is to be paid in three months and, if in default, he will be imprisoned for two months with hard labour.
