Tribute to Carol (Zastro) Raymore, Jamaica 50 SKN Awardee

L-R JamKit Pres, Zastro Raymore, Minister of Culture
By: Jamaica Kittitian (JamKit) Association, PRESS RELEASE

     Basseterre, St Kitts; 5 September 2012: “Don’t do unto others as you’d not have them do unto you”, says Carol Orville Xavier Raymore, Jamaica 50 SKN Awardee. The show Mission Impossible was this Awardee’s favourite show as a teen, so much so that today he bears the name of a character that appeared in one of the episodes. That character was a magician by the name of Zastro.

    Mr. Raymore is the last of three (3) children born to his parents in the southern parish of St. Catherine, Jamaica. He attended the well respected St. Jago High School in Spanish Town; a school that has nurtured many great men and women; perhaps of most current note, the self-proclaimed ‘Beast’, Yohan Blake of Jamaican Olympic fame. Immediately after graduating High School, Zastro read for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad.

    He returned to Jamaica, where he was employed by N. N. Barnes Construction. After a year he took up an offer by Trinto Planned Consultants in Trinidad and Tobago and worked with that company from 1980 to 1986. He was, however, lured away from that company by C.E. Jenkins & Co. Limited of St. Christopher & Nevis, arriving in the Federation to take up his post in 1986.

    He incorporated his own construction company, Raymore & Associates Limited, in 1996 and has since then rolled out an impressive array of projects, which offered significant employment opportunities for locals. These include, but are not limited to:

    Ø The administration building of the International University of Nursing (IUON) which was completed in the record time of six (6) months;
    Ø The arrival building of Port Zante;
    Ø The St. Kitts Co-operative Credit Union Headquarters on Wellington Road;
    Ø The Horsfords Building Materials Depot;
    Ø Road construction at the Half Moon Bay and Turtle Beach;
    Ø The renovation of the First Caribbean International Bank and the LIME offices;
    Ø The foundation and superstructure for the South Stand at the Warner Park Stadium;
    Ø The foundation for the media centre and the player’s pavilion at the Warner Park Stadium;
    Ø The foundation and superstructure for the Silver Jubilee Stadium; and
    Ø The joint ventured construction of the Medical University of the Americas in Nevis.

    No job is out of range for Raymore & Associates Limited, as that company has constructed everything from dog kennels at Ross University to vaults at the Springfield Cemetery, and most things in between.

    Rene Brown of Camps Estate in Nevis said “I do” to Zastro seventeen (17) years ago at Romney Manor, Old Road. The union produced two sons, Xavier and Kadeem.

    The Jamaican Kittitian (JamKit) Association invites you to applaud CAROL ORVILLE XAVIER RAYMORE aka Zastro, the magician for his contribution to the built environment of St. Kitts & Nevis. Mr. Raymore JamKit salutes you.

    NB: Mr. Raymore was one (1) of the five (5) Awardees honoured by the JamKit Association at the Official Launch & Flag Raising Ceremony of its Jamaica 50 SKN Celebrations held on Sunday, 12 August 2012 at the Zion Moravian Church. The plaque recognizing this Award was presented to Mr. Raymore by the Honourable Marcella Liburd, Minister of Culture and Miss Carol Phillips, President, JamKit Association.
