BASSETERRE St. Kitts, September 13th, 2012   --   This year, 13th September 2012, ST.KITTS NATIONAL YOUTH PARLIAMENT ASSOCIATION (SKNYPA) celebrates our 11th Anniversary under the theme “STRENGTH, STANDARDS, SUSTAINABILITY, 11 YEARS OF SUCCESS.”

As we celebrate, remembering all our past achievements and struggles, SKNYPA strives to continue to be the voice of the youth.

Fuelled by the successes of the past, we are happy to be celebrating our 11th anniversary energised and ready  for the tasks that lie ahead.  We anticipate, this year will be one of new challenges and obstacles, even as we remain open to embrace the attendant opportunities.

There are various activities planned for this year such as:
? Tourism Treasure Hunt in October
? Mock Parliamentary Debate in November
? Primary School Debate early next year

With respect to the Mock Parliamentary Debate, we have in the past debated moots relating to National Issues including the “Seat Belt Law” and “Electronic Crimes Act 2009”. This year we will continue to be the champion for youth causes relative to pertinent national issues.

In the past we have also organised Primary School Mock Parliamentary Debate and Debating Competition. These efforts have been aimed at stimulating and moulding young growing minds towards creating awareness of the parliamentary system and legislative processes.  We plan to continue in this vein as we remain committed to raising the bar for our youth.

The theme for this year’s International Youth Day is “Building a Better World: Partnering with Youth”. As we reflect on this theme, we are reminded of the importance of WORKING alongside the youth of the Federation in supporting their growth and development towards the building of a better world.

The youth of today are OUR Federation’s future leaders. Accordingly, I encourage our adults to play a supportive role. Have an open mind to new ideas shared and allow youth space to grow and rise beyond expectations.

-To the Youth I say – be willing to grow, step and think outside the box. Do not allow yourselves to be discouraged or dissuaded by anyone who tells you that ‘YOU CAN’T’, without giving serious thought to the possibilities for achievement and success.

BE optimistic! Be Positive! Strive, keep high Standards and you will be the LEADERS, that the world wants to see!

Let us all work together as we strive to be the best that we can be; and as we work to build a better world for ourselves and future generations.
