    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, September 12th, 2012  – The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court will commence the new 2012/2013 Law Year on Tuesday, September 18 with its usual Ceremonial Opening in the form of simultaneous special sittings in all the nine (9) Member States and Territories of the Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

    The proceedings in the Territory of the Virgin Islands will commence with a Church Service in the Court Yard of the House of Assembly Building, at 8:00 a.m. as well as an inspection of the Guard of Honour by the Resident Judges at 9:00 a.m.

     

    The Chief Justice’s Opening Address, which is considered the main event, will be delivered by Her Ladyship, Janice M. Pereira, Acting Chief Justice, at 10:00 a.m., from the High Court of Justice in St. Vincent & The Grenadines, where the Court of Appeal will be holding its first scheduled Sitting for the New Law Year.

     

    The address will be carried live via simulcast to the other Member States and Territories of the OECS and will also be broadcasted throughout the region via the local media.

     

    The public is encouraged to participate in the Ceremonial Opening of the 2012/2013 Law Year by attending or viewing the live broadcast of the Chief Justice’s address on CBN, Channel 51 at 10:00 a.m.

     

    The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court’s mission is to serve its Member States by providing access to a system of justice that is accountable, independent and administered by officers in a prompt, fair and efficient manner.
