Westbury man on gun-related charges to serve 12-year sentence

    CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – A male resident of Westbury, Nevis was on Tuesday (Sept. 11) sentenced to serve 12 years at Her Majesty’s Prison for gun-related matters, while a female from Paradise Extension was fined and cautioned for traffic offences.

     

    A press release from the Police Public Relations Office informed that Shaish James had appeared at the Charlestown Magistrate’s Court before Her Worship Jasmine Clarke charged with possession of firearm, possession of ammunition and smuggling a firearm into the Federation; offences he had committed at Cotton Ground on Thursday, April 26, 2012.

     

    The magistrate sentenced him to seven years imprisonment for possession of firearm, three years for possession of ammunition and two years for smuggling a firearm into the Federation.

     

    The sentences are to run concurrently.

     

    In the same court, Elenor Dash of Paradise Extension was convicted for driving without due care and attention and driving without insurance, committed on Sunday, August 5, 2012.

     

    She was cautioned on the first charge and fined EC$500 on the other, which is to be paid within one month or she will be imprisoned for one month.

     

    Meanwhile, the release states that on St. Kitts, a male juvenile was charged last Saturday (Sept. 8) for driving without a valid licence and driving without insurance.
