Roadtown, Tortola- The landscaping of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School Grounds is expected to be completed this week.

Delays in the shipment of grass sod from Puerto Rico have created a slight setback in the project. However, the shipment has arrived and was delivered to the project site this afternoon.

The heavy showers experienced today prevented the laying of the grass sod. However, Ground Works BVI, the contractor for the project, assured the Premier’s Office that weather permitting, the project will be completed soon.

The project which entails the planting of 52,500 square feet of grass sod is about one-third complete.

Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office, Mrs. Rosalie Adams said “the

new landscape will provide a better environment for the children to learn and play and Government remains committed to having the project completed by the start of school on September 8.”

Mrs. Adams added that “the health and safety of the Territory’s children remain a priority area and this project reinforces Government’s commitment to these ideals.”

The $88,750 project will also include the installation of a temporary irrigation system, 50 ornamental plants and 13 mature palms around the southern perimeter facing the main road.

The upgrading of the school grounds began in July with the levelling of the surface and the building of a retaining wall in a section of the playing field to prevent potential problems with flooding and soil run-off when it rains.
