Grenada bids farewell to Ambassador Carlos Perez

    ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, September 14th 2012  --  Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas on Thursday bade farewell to Venezuela’s Ambassador to Grenada Carlos Perez.

     

    Prime Minister Thomas described Ambassador Perez as an outstanding Diplomat and friend.

     

    “Ambassador Perez is really a true friend of Grenada and a person we have had a personal relationship with", the Prime Minister said.

     

    Thomas also praised the role Ambassador Perez played in strengthening relations between Grenada and Venezuela. “Grenada has had diplomatic relations with Venezuela for over thirty Seven years”, said PM Thomas. 

     

    “October 12th marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Venezuelan Institute, providing opportunities for Grenadians to learn Spanish.” Thomas added.

     

     According to the Prime Minister, “as we speak five Grenadians are currently in Venezuela on a cultural exchange and language programme... this is significant for our people and we want to thank the Government and People of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for their tremendous support to our development, in particular President Chavez."

     

    PM Thomas also noted that "Ambassador Perez has strengthened that relationship, he has been very supportive in assisting us in matters of state between Grenada and Venezuela”.

     

    “We have been able to benefit from the Petro Caribe Initiative an Initiative that the wider Caribbean countries also benefit from,” Thomas continued.

     

    The Prime Minister also toasted best wishes to Ambassador Perez on his new endeavors and gave him the assurance that Grenada will continue to strengthen its relations with Venezuela

     

    Ambassador Perez, for his part described the moment as both happy and sad. He said that he is happy to have been part of the further development of the country noting his government’s involvement in a number of projects.

     

    These include the completion of the Forde Bridge Community Development Projects in Snell Hall and Mount Toute, the Renovation of the pavilion at the Roy St Johns Park in Tanteen and the recently handed over Market Square Project. 

     

    “I am proud to have represented the Government of Venezuela and to have been a part of the cooperation between Grenada and Venezuela”, Perez said.

     

    On the other hand it is indeed a sad moment for me because I am leaving good and personal friends.

     

    Ambassador Perez stated that he has only good memories of Grenada and that Grenada will continue to have a place in his heart. “I think I have only good things in my memory and I will keep Grenada as part of my heart forever”, the Ambassador said.

     

    He described relations between Grenada and Venezuela as being at its best.

     

    Perez expressed hearty appreciation to all of Grenada for making his Diplomatic stay a memorable one.

     

    The farewell ceremony was attended by Head of State, Sir Carlyle Glean, members of the Diplomatic Corp and members of Cabinet.
