Public asked to contribute to Development of National Maritime Policy

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Following the National Consultation in May to develop a National Maritime policy for St Kitts and Nevis the department of Maritime affairs is currently cirulating the discussion paper resulting from this consultation for contribution, feedback and comments from the general public.

     

    According to the Director of Maritime and Civil Aviation Affairs, McClean Hobson, "this is a perfect opportunity for members of the general public and all the relevant stake holders to determine how the Maritime space of St Kitts and Nevis must be managed in the interest of St Kitts and Nevis. The Maritime policy is expected to chart the course for effective ocean governance in St Kitts and Nevis."

     

    The Discussion Document and Questionnaire can be found at www.stkittsnevisregistry.net, and on completion of filling out the Questionnaire and making their comments, same can be sent to maritimeaffairsskn@gmail.com or to McClean Hobson, Director/Maritime & Civil Aviation Affairs, Ministry of Tourism & International Transport, Building #3/4, POB 878, Port Zante, Basseterre, St. Kitts, W.I.

     

    Hobson stated that the Discussion Document was prepared by Dr. J.P. Roberts, Advisor (Ocean Governance) of the Economic and Legal Section of the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, and that “the general public has up until October 5, 2012 to give their comments and feedback”.
