BASSETERRE, St. Kitts  –  RESIDENTS of the Newtown Community celebrated the 29th Independence Day celebration in various ways.

It is a day more than any for persons to show their patriotism while still enjoying the holiday.
Many chose to attend the 29th Independence Parade held at Warner Park, which features various troops from Police Officers to Boys and Girls Brigade.
One returning national said that she had not been to the parade in over 14 years and since she was visiting St. Kitts during the Independence celebrations, ‘the parade was not missing her’.
Some also used the opportunity to catch up on some well needed sleep or to lounge around and go to the beach for a day of reflection and simply relaxation.
Children were seen in the streets playing football and basketball while some who lived near the ‘bay’ dived in for a cool swim on a very hot day.
A group of persons gathered at Ponds Pasture to have a good laugh, drinks and music, stating they were enjoying the day the best way they knew how.
Another group of men spent their afternoon playing games while some were at the Newtown Field hanging out.
A lady by the name of Yvonne Chumney was very proud to show off her outfit for the day as she was dressed in a lovely outfit which featured colours of the National Flag.
Parents were seated on benches with their children, looking at passersby while discussing anything from school work to quizzing them on stuff about St. Kitts and Nevis.
All in all, it was a quiet day for the Newtown community as they look forward to celebrating their festival over the next weekend.
