    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, September 20th, 2012  –  In an effort to protect voluntary and community based organisations from terrorist activities, the Government of the Virgin Islands is moving to implement the Virgin Islands Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) Bill 2012.

    Consequently, the Ministry of Health and Social Development is inviting the public to further review and submit comments on the new legislation.

     

    The Bill is designed to facilitate the registration, supervision and monitoring of voluntary and community based organisations.

     

    In speaking with the Department of Information and Public Relations, Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton stated, “The Government of the Virgin Islands recognises that the efforts of voluntary and community based organisations assist in providing essential services, comfort and hope to vulnerable groups in our society.”

     

    Minister Skelton further stated, “It is therefore necessary to create a positive and safe regulatory environment where these organisations can successfully engage in work to better our communities.”

     

    Limited hard copies of the Virgin Islands Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) Bill 2012 are available at the Government’s Help Desk and in the Ministry of Health and Social Development. Requests for electronic copies may be emailed to ministryofhealth@gov.vg.

    The deadline for submission of comments is Monday October 1, 2012. Comments may be returned electronically to the same email address, or submitted in writing to the Government’s Help Desk.
