ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, September 19th, 2012  – The Employee Assistance Programme a crucial component of the Department of Human Resources-Employee Relations Unit will observe its first Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Awareness Week from October 1-5.

The week, which is being held under the theme, “EAP and You: Enhancing Workforce Wellness for a Stronger Public Service,” was initiated to bring more attention to the work of the Unit and to highlight the vast number of services that are available to public officers.

The activities begin on Monday, October 1 at the Central Administration Complex, where officers will be greeted, as they begin their work week, and provided with informational packages about the EAP, general wellness handouts and motivational quotations. At the end of the meet and greet, EAP balloons will be released to officially mark the opening of the week.

On Tuesday, October 2, EAP members will take to the streets and visit satellite offices to meet with public officers and discuss any concerns they may have, share valuable information about the EAP services and offer words of support and encouragement.

Members of the EAP staff will open their office to public officers on Wednesday, October 3, at the Unit’s Open House, which will be held at their office located on the first floor of the Betteto Frett Building. Public Officers will have an opportunity to explore the counsellors’ offices and learn more about the services of the EAP. Officers will also be given the rare opportunity to take part in a role reversal exercise where they will play counsellor.

Public Officers are encouraged to show their fellow public officers acts of appreciation on Thursday, October 4 for appreciation day. This can be done in the form of a kind word, a small token, or just a winsome smile. Small acts of kindness go a long way to making the working environment more relaxed.

The week culminates on Friday, October 5 with EAP on the Green, a casual family oriented evening of fun at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Public Officers are encouraged to bring out their families to this event, which will be filled with entertainment, jazz music, motivational and inspirational poetry, fun, food, laughter and fellowship. Officers will also be invited during the open-mic segment to unleash their hidden poetic talents and share with the crowd.

The Employee Assistance Programme was launched in 2004 to provide public officers with counselling and support when faced with personal or work-related problems that may impact their work performance. Public Officers can contact the EAP at 468-3701 ext. 4352 or 5197 to obtain additional information or to speak to one of the trained counsellors.
