Cyber-Sex crimes surface in Jamaica and St. Kitts

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JAMAICAN Police recently arrested a man whom they believe is responsible for a website which featured naked photographs and videos of local women in sexual positions.

According to yardflex.com Ronald Oates, a 27-year-old Kinston resident is the main suspect behind a major cyber crime offence involving the posting of nude photographs of women on a local website.

A similar situation seems to be developing in St. Kitts with a Facebook Fan Page “X-posing Slutz” which surfaced several months ago.

When SKNVibes first took notice of the page it featured photographs of young women and men in lewd, sexual acts, and also featured an explicit video with a male and female having sexual intercourse.

However, the photographs are now removed from the page as it was reported that the admin of the page claimed they were being reported to owners of Facebook.

The page which had disappeared for a while resurfaced several weeks ago but it has not posted any nude photographs or videos though several persons would flock the page asking to see more.

In speaking with Inspector Lyndon David, SKNVibes learnt that posting photographs or videos of persons on the internet without their consent in sexual and compromising positions can be prosecuted under the Electronic Crimes Bill.

“Once someone posts a photo or video of another in a compromising position or engaging in sexual behavior without their consent, the victim can report the matter to the police. The police would have to obtain a court order to give to the internet provider in order to obtain the necessary information, and then start our investigations to track the perpetrators,” he said.

He said that once the person is identified, s/he would be taken into custody for further investigation and then the proper charge or charges would be given depending on what was learnt from the investigation.

“We are now equipped to deal with these crimes and have a successful prosecution, once we have evidence,” Inspector Davis added.

He said it is important that persons lodge a complaint and he revealed that no one has made a report to the police about the fan page.

“Persons can post their naked bodies on the internet, but someone has to be offended by it and complain. Once that is done, the investigation process starts.”

The Jamaican man who not only exposed local Jamaican women also demanded money from one of his victims whose photograph surfaced on the website.

He was arrested and charged earlier this month with breaches of the Cyber Crime Act and extortion, among other offences but was recently granted bail in the sum of $500,000 with strict conditions.

The website was www.Jamaicangirlsexposed.com and police alleged that Oates would hack into women's email account and threaten to post nude photos of them if they did not pay him.

The report states that he demands $10,000 or more for the photos not to be put online and Jamaican officers said he has received as much as $150,000 from one victim.

Popular Jamaican recording artiste Denyque was one of those “exposed”.

Naked photographs of her were posted on the website and she was also asked to pay $50,000 to have them removed.

However, she reported the matter to the police and the website was later shut down, or so it had seemed.

SKNVibes is unsure when the site first surfaced but after being “shut down” it later resurfaced in June, with a video of a young woman who is believed to be a former Miss Jamaica contestant.

The sexually explicit video reportedly showed sexual intercourse being carried out between the former Miss Jamaica World contestant and her male partner. The video was also accompanied by pictures of the young lady fully clothed and the video warned it was only part one.

The site would also expose nude pictures of persons who allegedly worked at large corporate institutions as well as university students and made it clear that exposing Jamaican girls would not stop.

Inspector Davis said that people should be very careful about giving such photographs to persons and also about trusting persons to video tape them while engaging in sexual intercourse.

He said that the males who are having sexual intercourse with underage females will receive additional charges for engaging in sexual activities with them.
