Public Hearing Planned for new Development Project on VG

~~Adz:Right~~ Virgin Gorda, B.V. I- Government’s Town and Country Planning Department will host a public hearing on Virgin Gorda next Wednesday, September 10 on the Aquasar Development.

This proposed residential development project will consist of seven buildings including four fully serviced residential units, two swimming pools and an access road connecting the buildings with the parking area.
According to a notice from the Town and Country Planning Department, the almost five acre development at Pond Bay is ”designed to blend into the natural vegetation, incorporating such innovations as cantilevered portions of buildings that minimise the buildings’ footprints and disturbance to the ground.”

Wednesday’s hearing provides an opportunity for members of the community to voice their support or concerns about the application for development. Additionally, comment sheets will be made available for those who prefer to make written statements.

The plans for the proposed development are available for review at the Virgin Gorda District Office in the Vanterpool Building and the Town and Country Planning Department in the Central Administration Building.

The public hearing will be held at the Catholic Community Centre starting at 7:00 p.m. Persons wishing to participate can contact the department at 494-3701 ext 2158.

The Physical Planning Act, 2004 makes specific provisions for public input on major development projects in the Territory. Based on this mandate and Government’s commitment to foster greater community involvement, the Town and Country Planning Department hosts public hearings and meetings to inform members of the public about potential developments and to allow them an opportunity to express their opinions on the proposals presented by developers.

The Town and Country Planning Authority is the government body charged with regulating infrastructural development in the Territory. Its mission is to ensure sustainable development by promoting the wise use of land, effective communication systems and facilitate the harmonious change while enhancing the Territory’s strong cultural heritage.
