CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – A number of individuals, including an employee of the Four Seasons Estate, are now homeless following a mid-morning fire that destroyed the house in which they lived.

Information reaching SKNVibes today states that while the residents of a house in Brown Hill, Nevis were not at home, fire engulfed the building and all of their belongings, except a few pieces of garments, were destroyed.

Owner of the house and Four Seasons Estate employee William Ize-Iyamu was informed at about 9:15 this morning, via telephone, that his residence was on fire. On arrival, Ize-Iyamu found fire officers were extinguishing the fire with assistance from Public Works and Disaster Preparedness officials as well as a large cross-section of residents in Brown Hill.

According to Fire Substation Officer Clarence Hendrickson, no life was lost. “When we received a call this morning, we responded immediately. On arrival, the property was engulfed in flames and we went into action and used water to extinguish the fire.  Everything was totally destroyed except a few clothes.”

Asked in what way would the government assist the fire victims, Minister of Health and Deputy Premier Hensley Daniel, who was at the scene, said a facility exists within the government structures that allows them to find alternative accommodation for the family or to rebuild the house.

Police officers were also at the scene conducting investigations, but there was no immediate comment from them or the fire officers on what may have been the cause of the fire.
