DPP signals her imminent retirement

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTIONS, Paulina Hendrickson has signaled her intention to retire from the post which she has held for a number of years.

She recently made this revelation at the Opening of the New Law Term at the Basseterre High Court, while delivering an address on the plans, accomplishments and challenges of her office.

"I take this opportunity to inform the Court and my learned colleagues that this would be my last such address as the Director of Public Prosecutions, my well deserved retirement being imminent," she opened her address by saying.

She went on to state that she is content on leaving her office, knowing that her juniors will carry on the professional and ethical conduct by which they are bound, in seeking justice rather than statistics.

"In leaving the office soon, I feel comfortable knowing that the core of prosecutors under my wing have always been, and I trust that they will continue to stay, true to the ethics by which we are bound generally in this known profession and particularly by the Legal Profession Act - that the primary duty of an Attorney-at-Law when engaged as a public prosecutor is not to secure a conviction at any cost but to see that justice is done," she humbly said.

Although Hendrickson has not been forthcoming with further details of her retirement, she did however announce that the official retirement would take place before the commencement of the New Law Term in 2013.

Hendrickson officially took the post of Director of Public Prosecutions in September of 2006, taking over from Dennis Merchant who had retired from that position.
