    Isabella ‘Joy’ Pompey-Carr- Winning pharmacist

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Local pharmacist Isabelle ‘Joy’ Pompey-Carr made an indelible mark at the 2008 Caribbean Association of Pharmacists Convention held recently in Trinidad & Tobago.

The convention took place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Trinidad between August 11 and 16, and allowed for regional pharmacists to network and to exchange ideas and experiences. Several representatives of pharmaceutical companies participated in the convention and had booths where their existing products were displayed and new products were unveiled.

Professional Pharmacists from North America, Canada, Bahamas, Jamaica and other Caribbean territories also made classroom type presentations on new and developing products for the benefit of the attending pharmacists.

After demonstrating the scope of her knowledge of pharmaceutical products, the symptoms they treat and the contra-indications, Carr proved she was the best and was awarded the 2008 Medi Whiz Champion Trophy, along with 3 nights free accommodation at next year’s Caribbean Association of Pharmacists Convention.

Although Carr could not attend the 2007 convention, her reputation preceded her and through nomination from one of her peers, and bio-data presented about her work habits and personality, she received a similar award called the Caribbean Community Pharmacist of Distinction Award.  The award is given to a Caribbean Pharmacist who in the opinion of his or her peers has served the community and provided the highest level of Pharmacy care.  ~~Adz:Right~~

Carr has worked with City Drug Store (2005) Ltd for eight years and was previously employed by Parris Pharmacy.  She became a Registered Pharmacist in 1998 and had this qualification conferred upon her by the Barbados Community College. Also a member of the Caribbean Association of Pharmacists, Carr enjoys her line of work and finds it particularly rewarding whenever someone comes back to thank her for prescribing medication which aided their recovery from illness.

Carr spoke with SKNVibes.com saying, “There is an extreme shortage in the number of practicing pharmacists per capita in the region. I hope that more young people would choose pharmacy as a lifelong career.”
