CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – IN an effort to bring to justice the two bandits, who had robbed Percy’s Jewellery Store in Ramsbury, Nevis of over US$100 000 in gold and diamond jewellery, police have released footage captured on a security camera of the incident.

In an exclusive interview last evening (Sept. 29) with this publication, Commissioner of Police Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn said he is confident that viewers of the attached video would recognise the perpetrators of the robbery, thus enabling the police to arrest, charge and successfully prosecute them.

“Viewers, this video has been released by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force. This video is from an armed robbery at a jewellery Store in Nevis. Preliminary investigations have led the police to believe that the men are local Nevis residents and are known to many.

“Please take the time to look at the mannerisms of these men, such as the way they walk, the way they hold their hands, the way they stand and the way they move their body. People are creatures of habit and these two men will be recognised by taking your time to watch how they move.

“The police believe the shorter of the two men walks the same way as seen on the video and he also holds his hands in the same manner, and these distinctive traits will cause someone to identify him. Please call Inspector Smithen at 662-7062, and you can do so anonymously,” Commissioner Walwyn said.

This media house learnt that sometime after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2012, two well-dressed young men had entered Percy’s Jewellery Store, which is situated next door to the office of Cozier & Associates Barristers-at-Law & Solicitors in Ramsbury, and had made enquiries about jewellery.

It was also learnt that the Hon. Dwight Cozier, Junior Minister of Trade and Industry, Consumer Affairs and Import and Export Control in the Nevis Island Administration, was in the store along with the owner and his wife.

Reports stated that the unmasked men had donned wigs under hats and one of them had jumped over the counter and placed a gun at the owner’s head while the other one, also armed, placed his gun to Cozier’s head and ordered him to lie on the floor.

He then joined his accomplice over the counter, where they emptied the showcase of a large amount of gold and diamond jewellery as well as cash, valued at over US$100 000, placed them in a bag and fled the scene.

Reports also stated that one of the bandits had discharge a round from his firearm but no one was injured as the bullet struck the showcase. And according to Commissioner Walwyn, there are other reported robberies on Nevis and it is possible that they were committed by the same men seen in the video.
