CEO Cable & Wireless Caribbean, Richard Dodd |
As you would be aware, the Turks and Caicos Islands experienced the full brunt of Hurricane Ike on Saturday night—only a week after they were impacted by Tropical Storm Hanna.
We at Cable & Wireless are very happy that there have been no reported fatalities, but we are very conscious of the significant damage that has been caused to property and infrastructure.
We are also very pleased that our networks remained functional in most areas even during the hurricane and, where this has changed, it has been due to the fact that many of the utility poles which support our cables were blown down by the extremely strong winds.
Already, our teams are on the ground making an assessment of the immediate needs—both humanitarian and technical—to facilitate a coordinated response.
You can be assured that Cable & Wireless will be providing all the assistance that it can to the people of the Turks and Caicos, while we will be, simultaneously, working around-the-clock to restore all our services in the shortest possible time. In this regard, though, we ask for your patience, as in many instances, full restoration will depend on factors outside of our control, such as restoration of power and the replanting of poles.
We know that the process of repairs and rebuilding will be a fairly lengthy one, but we are confident that the indomitable spirit of the people in these islands will prevail.
